The State Statistics Committee of Ukraine (Goskomstat) revealed that, in October 2008, the production of slate cement increased 2.2% to reach 63.8 mln tiles, compared with output in October 2007. For the purposes of this calculation, slate includes corrugated plates, slate and other asbestos cement products.

In October 2008, Ukraine’s cement production fell by 10.1% to 1.291 mln metric tons, compared with October 2007. This information was released yesterday by the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, with additional news issued about the growth of the country’s slate production (see related news in today’s edition of the Sokrat daily). Production of cement fell by 9.6% in the month of October, in comparison to the levels achieved in September. In the period January-October, cement production rose by 5.2% to reach an output of 13.495 mln metric tons, relative to the same ten-month period in 2007.

The preliminary results for January-October 2008 for the OJSC Kramatorsk ‘Pushka’ Cement Plant [KRCS UZ, U/R], a member of the ‘Eurocement Group Ukraine’ and affiliate of the Eurocement Group Holding, have been released. The company produced 369.1 thsd metric tons of clinker, which amounts to 107% of the company’s target of 344.8 thsd metric tons. Due to the current situation on the construction market, cement production for the same period in 2007 was 490.4 thsd metric tons, which was 90% of its 551 thsd target.

The Cabinet of Ministers has transferred a UAH 25 mln tranche from its national budget to the Zaporizhya City Council’s Executive Committee, earmarked for construction work on a bridge across the Dnepr River in 2008, which is being built as part of overall highway building plans.

Mostobud [MTBD UZ, BUY] has won four tenders in Romania for the expansion of a 4-lane section of the ‘South Bucharest’ bypass and for the rehabilitation of national roads at the ‘Vyrfule – Stey’ site. The total monetary value of the collective work for these projects is more than EUR 95 mln.

Mostobud [MTBD UZ, BUY] has revealed the core of its domestic bridge-building plans for the next few years, which are to focus on two bridges in the Kyiv Region and one in the city of Kremenchug. This information was revealed by Vladimir Prodivus, the Chairman of Mostobud’s Supervisory Board during the recent conference “Russia and the CIS: prosperity through partnership”.

Heidelbergcement Ukraine, one of the country’s largest cement producers, stated its intention to invest UAH 363.152 mln (USD 72 mln) into the modernization of its production facilities in 2009-2010. Respectively, this is UAH 127.557 mln in 209 and UAH 235.595 mln in 2010.

Cement output in September decreased by 6.2% MoM; however, considering the results for Jan-Aug, cement producers increased output by 8% up to 10.6 mln metric tons.

Things are on track with respect to the technical upgrading of the Donetsk-based Kramatorsk “Pushka” Cement Plant [KRCS UZ, BUY] and the JSC Balcem (Kharkov Region).

According to statistics reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Ukrainian enterprises belonging to the Dyckerhoff Zement Group increased production for the period January-August 2008 by 8.6%, compared to the same period in 2007. The total production for this period was 1,845 mln metric tons
