In October, the Zaporizhya car assembly plant (ZAZ) – the largest producer of cars in Ukraine – reduced output by 20% (or 4,560 cars) to 18,180 cars, compared to September’s output. This data was released in a statement issued by the company’s press service.

The AvtoKrAZ Holding Company [KRAZ UZ, N/R], a manufacturer of large-tonnage trucks based in Kremenchug (Poltava Region), is considering the options for creating a certificated national car-testing center.

Kryukiv Railcar [KVBZ UZ, BUY] has announced that it intends to create a prototype passenger wagon with a double-lock braking system. It is hoped that the project will be completed by the beginning of 2009.

Motor Sich [MSICH UZ, U/R] has signed a contract with the Chinese company Tianli for the licensed repair licensed repair of ÀI-25TLK engines for K-8J VPS training aircraft owned by the Chinese Air Force. According to the Industrial Policy Ministry of Ukraine, these are scientific-training aircraft.

The Open Joint-Stock Company Dniprovagonmash [DNVM UZ, BUY], a large Ukrainian railcar producer, released its results for the period January-September 2008. The company’s plant increased railcar output by 17% to around 3,000 units, compared to its results for the first nine months of 2007.

According to an official announcement made by the Ukrainian Antimonopoly Committee, it has approved the option for Kryukiv Railcar [KVBZ UZ, BUY] to purchase a controlling stake in the Kremenchug Steel Plant [KRST UZ, N/R].

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to provide a loan of EUR 175 mln to Ukrzaliznytsia, the state rail transport administration. This credit will be allocated for the replacement of railway rolling-stock. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko made this announcement at Wednesday’s Cabinet of Ministers` meeting.

Kryukiv Railcar [KVBZ UZ, BUY] has completed the construction of its assembly and welding shop within its railcar-building complex in Kremenchug, Poltava Region.

Yesterday, the Bogdan Corporation suspended the construction of its plant in Russia, which was intended for the production of buses and passenger cars. The site was to be in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

For the period January-October 2008, Ukraine’s Bogdan Automobile Factory [LUAZ UZ, BUY], previously known as the Lutsk Automobile Plant (LuAZ), raised its car output by 82.6% to 77,720 cars from 42,563 cars for the same period in 2007. This data was released by the Bogdan Corporation.
