According to a press release issued by the Bogdan Automobile Plant [LUAZ UZ, U/R], the company ended 1Q09 with a net loss of UAH 42 mln (USD 5.45 mln). Net sales for the period increased by 80.64% to UAH 355.4 mln (USD 46.2 mln).

The Kharkiv-based OJSC Turboatom [TATM UZ, HOLD] – the largest turbine manufacturer in Ukraine and – has announced its financial results in 1Q2009: net sales grew by 60.4% to UAH 185.6 mln; net profit decreased by 4.7% to UAH 26.2 mln.

Poltavkhimmash [PHMSH UZ, U/R], a rapidly growing railcar tank producer in Ukraine, announced its financial results for 2008. According to a company press release, PHSMSH increased net sales by 44% to UAH 309.3 mln (USD 58.4 mln), and net income grew by 6.3 times to UAH 30.1 mln. (USD 5.7 mln).

Kryukiv Railcar [KVBZ UZ, U/R], based in Kremenchug (Poltava Oblast), decided to pay dividends for 2008. KVBZ’s EPS’08 is UAH 3.49, which is a 50% increase compared to the previous year; DPS’08 is UAH 0.5, which is 500% higher than DPS’07. Dividends will be paid out over May-June 2009.

Dneprovagonmash [DNVM UZ, U/R], a large domestic carriage producer owned by TAS Group, has announced plans to decrease railcar production by 42.21% to 1880 units due to low demand for new railcars in the CIS.

On April 22, Zaporizhtransformator [ZATR UZ, N/R] – the world's largest manufacturer of transformer equipment – announced that it will supply transformers to Central Asian countries in Q42009.

The Luhansk-based Stakhaniv Railcar Works [SVGZ UZ, U/R], one of the largest wagon producers in Ukraine and part of the AvtoKrAZ holding, announced that company has recently finished the production of 100 platforms for a Latvian railway and started the production of 300 mineral hoppers for a Russian client.

Ukraine’s state railroad transport administration, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced it will be holding a tender for the purchase of 1,000 freight cars, which are intended for use on the Donetsk Railway.

Sumy Frunze Machine Building [SMASH UZ, N/R] – one of largest European producers of equipment for the oil, gas, and chemical industries – has secured a deal with the Russian gas monopoly ‘Gazprom’, whereby it will supply six turbo freezer aggregates.

The Svarog Asset Management company, which owns 14.94% of shares in the Kharkiv-based OJSC Turboatom [TATM UZ, HOLD] – the largest turbine manufacturer in Ukraine – is challenging the legitimacy of decisions adopted at the recent shareholders meeting on April 13, including the decision to pay out UAH 50.884 mln in dividends on the company’s 2008 profits.
