Government to purchase domestic busses for Euro 2012: NEUTRAL

According to Kommersant newspaper, as of June 18, the Ukrainian government had not discussed the question of purchasing new busses from local producers in preparation for the Euro 2012 football championship. A day earlier, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko stated that local bus producers could supply the required number of busses for Euro 2012.

Railcar production drops by 75% YoY in May: NEGATIVE

According to the State Statistics Committee, Ukraine’s production output of railcars dropped by 75% YoY to 700 units in May. During the first five months, railcar production decreased by 72.5% YoY to 3700 units.

LUAZ resumes car production in June: MIXED

According to a press release issued by the Bogdan Automobile Plant [LUAZ UZ, U/R], the company resumed automobiles production on June 10. Plant operations had stood idle since early April 2009 due to the significant amount of automobiles ready for sale in the plant’s warehouse and the lack of demand for new cars in Ukraine.

According to the press service of Sumy Frunze Machine Building [SMASH UZ, N/R] – one of Europe’s largest producers of equipment for the oil, gas, and chemical industries – the company will deliver three gas turbine power generation units to a Russian company, Surgutneftegaz by mid-October 2009.

In May 2009, the Ukrainian car market recorded a 74% drop compared to the same period in 2008, according to Auto Consulting. Car production in May was almost at the level of April’s output with 12.7 thsd units.

According to the CEO of Vneshtorgbank Ukraine (VTB), one of the Russian’s largest state owned banks, VTB has opened a credit line of USD 80 mln. to Ukraine’s largest passenger car producer, UkrAvto [AVTO UZ, N/R], for production development and customer auto loan support.

MSICH is one of the key bidders on MC-21 engine development

According to RIA news, on June 2, an international conference between Ukraine and Russia regarding aviation engine production will take place in Zaporizhya. Motor Sich [MSICH UZ, BUY], a large aviation engine producer in Ukraine, will be one of the key bidders on engine development for the MC-21 long-haul aircraft. The first test flight of the new MC-21 aircraft is planned for 2015. The value of the new aircraft project development estimated at USD 8 bln.

KVBZ will lay off an additional 800 employees in July: POSITIVE

According to a Kremenchug city employment center, Kryukiv Railcar [KVBZ UZ, U/R], based in Kremenchug (Poltava Oblast), has decided to lay off an additional 796 employees in July. The main reason for decreasing the staff count is the absence of orders for freight raicars. KVBZ had about 9 thd employees before the start of the crisis in the railcar production industry (October 2008).
