Ukraine to harvest 42-43 mln mt of grain in 2009: NEUTRAL

The Ministry of Agriculture decreased its forecasted 2009 grain harvest from its previously estimated 48 mln mt of grain to roughly 42-43 mln mt. Mr. Melnik, the Minister of Agriculture, stated that the wheat harvest would decrease by 22.8% YoY to 20 mln mt, the corn harvest is expected to shrink by 8% YoY and the barley harvest will drop by 20.6%.

Another bankruptcy claim against SILUR: NEGATIVE

Uryadovyy Courier (an official Cabinet publication) reported that on May 12 a local tax authority filed a bankruptcy claim against Silur [SILUR UZ, N/R]. Kommersant-Ukraine cited the company’s CEO in reporting that the total claims amount to UAH 220 mln (USD 28.6 mln).

Ukrainian automobile market drops 74% YoY: NEGATIVE

In May 2009, the Ukrainian car market recorded a 74% drop compared to the same period in 2008, according to Auto Consulting. Car production in May was almost at the level of April’s output with 12.7 thsd units.

Sokrat: VTB opens USD 80 mln credit line for UkrAvto: POSITIVE

According to the CEO of Vneshtorgbank Ukraine (VTB), one of the Russian’s largest state owned banks, VTB has opened a credit line of USD 80 mln. to Ukraine’s largest passenger car producer, UkrAvto [AVTO UZ, N/R], for production development and customer auto loan support.

According to a note from the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, CPI grew 0.5% MoM in May (14.7% YoY, 7.4% YTD). PPI declined 0.7% MoM (4.4% YoY growth, 2.8% YTD growth)

MHP’s 1Q09 results: POSITIVE

Myronovsky Khliboproduk [MHPC LI, BUY], has released its 1Q09 financial and operational results. Key operational results: chicken production facilities are operating at full capacity, meat production is unchanged from the 2008 level; the poultry selling price denominated in UAH increased by 18% YoY, the cost production of 1 kg slightly decreased YoY.

NCRC proposed new interconnect tariffs: NEUTRAL

The National Communication Regulation Commission (NCRC), the state regulator, has announced new interconnect tariffs for F2M termination calls. NCRC has proposed a new tariff of UAH 0.45 per minute through the end of the current year and UAH 0.4 per minute from Jan 1, 2010. The interconnect tariff for M2F will stay at USH 0.25 per minute.

LUAZ reduced its capacity utilization in 2009: NEGATIVE

In an interview with Ukrainian News, Oleg Svinarchuk, President of Bogdan Automobile Plant [LUAZ UZ, U/R], claimed that the company has reduced its expectations regarding plant capacity utilization from 60-70% to 20-40%.
